Press and Media Intern
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) is offering an internship in its busy Press and Media Office, which is responsible for ensuring maximum media coverage of the organisation's campaigns and activities. The position would be ideal for anyone seeking experience to further a career in media, public relations or journalism. The intern will work closely with the Press Officer, assisting with all aspects of the department's work, including developing target lists for campaign coverage, making media follow-up calls, maintaining PETA's contact database, writing letters to the editor and participating in brainstorming meetings to discuss campaign and celebrity ideas. The successful candidate will have an interest in celebrity culture, effective verbal and written communication skills and proficiency in computer word-processing, spreadsheet and e-mail software. He or she must also have good organisational skills, a high level of motivation and efficiency, the ability to work both independently and as part of a team and a commitment to PETA's policies and objectives. The ideal candidate should be able to start almost immediately and to commit six to 8 weeks to the role.
Although the post is not salaried, PETA will reimburse travel costs to and from work (within London) and provide a daily meal allowance.
