Job Openings: Media Officer

Position Objective:

To generate media coverage for PETA Europe Ltd (PEL)

Term of Employment:

Full-time

Reports to:

Director of PETA Europe

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Facilitate work with the PEL staff to generate media coverage of their projects and promote these projects to the media
  • Develop new media campaigns and ideas
  • Pitch PEL campaigns and events to the media and track media coverage
  • Act as media spokesperson
  • Organise media events, including mailings to the media on specific issues or campaigns
  • Handle incoming media inquiries
  • Undertake media interviews on behalf of PEL, as requested
  • Maintain and update PEL's media databases and other files
  • Assist PEL staff members with various duties relating to media relations
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the director

Qualifications:

  • Public relations or press office experience is essential
  • Exceptional writing abilities
  • Exceptional oral communication skills
  • Proven strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent understanding of the media
  • Ability to deal with a variety of people in a professional manner
  • Diplomacy, friendliness and patience
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through
  • Ability to make sound judgements and work independently
  • Thorough knowledge of animals rights issues and campaigns
  • Supportive position vis-à-vis PEL's philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PEL's positions on issues
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation
