Trick Fur-Wearers Into Learning the Truth About Their Clothes This London Fashion Week

Ahead of London Fashion Week, these Pinterest pins reveal what some fashion houses are hiding: cruelty.

These ads have been designed specifically for Pinterest, and only the top half is visible when viewed on the social network. When users click to reveal the full pin, they see the cruelty animals face for fashion. Check out the whole collection.

The ads, initially released during Berlin Fashion Week, were created by leading ad agency BBDO for PETA Germany.  We’re hoping that if compassionate people share them during London Fashion Week, which runs 19 to 23 February, fashion journalists and designers will take note.

Please visit PETA US’ Pinterest page and re-pin the ads using these hashtags: #FallWinter2016, #FashionWeek, #LondonFashionWeek and #LFW. Together, we can encourage the fashion world to become truly forward-thinking and move past the use of animal parts.

The “fur industry” has long been a byword for cruelty, killing millions of animals a year in horrific ways in order to profit from their skins. While most people wouldn’t dream of wearing real fur, leather also comes from animals who were cruelly killed for their skins. More than 1 billion animals are killed worldwide for the leather trade every single year, including cows, calves, horses, lambs, goats and pigs – and even dogs and cats. When you wear leather, there’s no easy way to know for sure whose skin you’re in.

The wool industry has a terrible impact on animals, too. Sheep are gentle individuals who – like all animals – feel pain, fear and loneliness. But the wool industry treats them as nothing more than wool-producing machines, given little in the way of respect or compassion.

And down, the soft layer of feathers closest to birds’ skin, also comes at a terrible price. Behind the fluff lies a harsh truth, as these feathers may be violently ripped from the bodies of ducks and geese while they’re still alive.

Thankfully, as more and more people vow never to clothe themselves in cruelty, retailers and designers are meeting the demand for animal-friendly clothes in style. For vegan fashion inspiration, check these out:
