Here’s Why Alan Cumming Fans Were Treated to Vegan Ice Cream at His Edinburgh Fringe Show

Theatregoers were in for a treat at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe performance of Alan Cumming Sings Sappy Songs. Edinburgh has been named the most vegan-friendly city in the UK, and in celebration, audience members enjoyed vegan ice cream at the show.

Taking time out of his tour schedule, the gay icon and one of Scotland’s favourite artists spoke with PETA and revealed how ditching meat and dairy foods for tasty vegan meals has increased his energy and reduced his environmental impact:

Alan says that swapping cholesterol-laden animal foods – which are linked to an increased risk of suffering from heart disease, cancer, obesity, and diabetes – for healthy, delicious plant-based meals feels great inside and out. “I feel much better, I feel I’ve got more energy, I feel cleaner, I feel younger”.

Since so many fantastic restaurants around the city offer delicious vegan options for the growing market of compassionate foodies, vegan eating is easy in the Scottish capital. Discussing the city’s thriving vegan options, Alan says:

I think Scotland’s waking up and looking out to the rest of the world and re-identifying itself. One of the ways it’s doing that is through what we put in to our bodies and that includes vegan eating.

People in Scotland and around the world are discovering the many benefits of plant-based eating. Try it for yourself:
