Joan Jett Loves Animals (and Rock ‘n’ Roll)

Legendary musician Joan Jett has given her voice to animals for years, and her dedication to sharing the advantages of a meat-free diet is an inspiration to us all. PETA and animals are lucky to have Joan by our side.

Joan was recently honoured for educating her fans about animal rights and her continued dedication to alleviating animal suffering. A punk-rock icon and the star of PETA’s “Canada’s Club Scene Sucks” campaign, Iggy Pop, presented Joan with the Nanci Alexander Activist Award last week in Florida, and at the same time, Joan’s new PETA US ad was unveiled:

Joan attributes her great health and youthful appearance to her longtime vegetarian diet. In addition to the massive animal suffering caused by the meat industry, animal products have been linked to some of our nation’s biggest killers: heart disease, strokes, diabetes, and cancer.

Raising animals for food also damages the environment more than just about anything else that we do. Whether it’s the overuse of resources, climate change, massive water and air pollution, or soil erosion, raising animals for food is wreaking havoc on the Earth.

Joan Jett’s love for animals led her to give meat the boot, but she later discovered the health and environmental benefits as well. If you are interested in joining Joan in kicking the meat habit, order our vegetarian/vegan starter kit.
