No Foie Gras Faux Pas for Nigella Lawson

Geese crammed in pen on foie gras farmCharles Saatchi has been quoted as saying that he thinks his wife, celebrity cook Nigella Lawson, should be “coveted”. Well, that’s how we feel, too, after her representative confirmed that contrary to recent media stories, the “Domestic Goddess” won’t eat or use the cruel food product foie gras in her recipes.

Nigella is in excellent company. Sir Roger Moore, Kate Winslet, Ricky Gervais and even Prince Charles have all spoken out against the force-feeding of ducks and geese for this torture in a tin. Crammed into tiny pens or individual cages, pipes are shoved down the birds’ throats several times a day, and huge quantities of grain, maize and fat are pumped into their stomachs until their livers become so grossly enlarged that their breathing becomes laboured and they can barely walk. Please join compassionate celebrities in standing up for the birds by contacting foie gras peddlers Fortnum & Mason and urging them to remove this cruel product from their shelves and menus immediately.

Eating meat is enough cruelty without eating this even crueler form.

Feeding the bloated livers of these poor birds to the bloated few who can afford it is beyond despicable. It must be stopped NOW!

She is no friend of animals. In addition to all the horrifically cruel ‘food’ she DOES tout, see, for example:
