Pamela Anderson: ‘Kissing Circus Animal Acts Goodbye Is Easy as Pie’

On a flying visit to London this week, Pamela Anderson, with characteristic compassion, found time to speak out for animals.

After learning with dismay that wild-animal circuses are still legal in the UK, the actor and animal rights advocate immediately contacted Prime Minister Theresa May urging her to end these cruel and archaic performances. She wrote:

One of the things that I love the most about the U.K. is its strong reputation as a nation that opposes cruelty to animals. That’s why my mouth dropped when I learned that Britain still has not banned wild animals from circuses. With all due respect, Brexit is complicated, but kissing circus animal acts goodbye is easy as pie. . . .

Animal acts are embarrassingly archaic and have no place in modern Britain – or anywhere else.

Pamela joins more than 20,000 kind people who have e-mailed the PM calling for action on circuses. Other celebrities such as Michael Sheen, Martin Freeman, and Ann Widdecombe have also demanded an end to shows in which frightened lions, tigers, camels, zebras, and other animals are forced to perform absurd tricks in front of a noisy crowd.

Seventeen other countries have already banned wild-animal circuses, and Scotland looks set to follow in spring 2017. Please add your voice to the campaign, and urge England and Wales to ban wild-animal circuses, too!

Wild animals belong in the wild – safe in their environment!

Please Pamela, do the same in FRANCE: we need to ban wild animals ( all animals actually) in circus!

  • Janet Cooper commented on October 22, 2016 at 3:10 pm

Animals should be treated with respect. Please stop the suffering ..nobody wants to see animals forced to perform…

  • Polly Folley commented on October 22, 2016 at 3:37 pm

Circuses show animals that are trained by fear and dread, pain and suffering. They should be living normal lives in their own natural environments

  • Peter Folley commented on October 22, 2016 at 3:38 pm

If we trained childre by beating them, depriving them of warmth and food, and submitting them to unrelenting domination, what kind of kids would we have. These animals suffer like that. IT IS WRONG

  • James commented on October 22, 2016 at 5:29 pm

Well done. I just wished more celebrities did this as it raises awareness for very serious issues like this.

We have been campaigning to ban wild and domestic animals in circuses throughout Britain for years now. But have been ignored, which wasn’t a surprise with Dave Cameron, a man who supports fox hunting in charge. But be has gone now and if Mrs. May wants the support of her people she will listen to us. There are many things that need changing, this is as good a place as any to begin. I hope you are listening, Prime Minister.

The animals in circuses cannot be described as wild but do not live in what might be described as a “natural environment ” , and the performances they are expected to do , do not emulate the actions of those found in the wild. If released they would be unlikely to survbive anywhere other than a zoo.

  • Andrea Mack commented on October 22, 2016 at 5:52 pm

Campaigns to ban wild and domestic animals in circuses have been going on for years. But with people such as Dave Cameron in charge, who supports fox hunting it was almost impossible. You have a real chance to gain the respect of the British public if you take action on this, Mrs May. Do right by the animals. Make all animals used in circuses illegal..!

  • Angela Rowlands commented on October 22, 2016 at 6:22 pm

Circus are tired ,cruel and should banned. Animals should be respected and not ours to make money

  • Karen Hirst commented on October 22, 2016 at 6:45 pm

    End these cruel circuses.
    All life matters

  • Carole Oliver commented on October 22, 2016 at 6:51 pm

Anyone who has no compassion for animals need to have the same done to them so they can suffer the cruelty and abuse these animals have to endure

  • Olivia Fitzgerald commented on October 22, 2016 at 7:33 pm

Pamela is right, not only are Circuses not the appropriate place for animals – full stop, we have all seen the appalling conditions that they are forced to live. And if we add to that the horrific training methods………..well folks, what are we waiting for?!

  • janette Lands commented on October 22, 2016 at 7:46 pm

With the world looking on expecting us to have high standards of animal care, we are still allowing animals to be used in this way for our own gratification without any thought for the animals needs.

  • Niamh commented on October 22, 2016 at 8:28 pm

Thank you so much to Pamela Anderson for speaking up for circus animals, she is such an icon and very beautiful star and I am over the moon that she is an Animal Defender and hopefully with her help we can get these heinous circuses banned for ever and force the human scum who torment animals for financial gain back into the sewer where they belong!

  • michelle lesmond commented on October 22, 2016 at 9:36 pm

Ban circuses. They are cruel and barbaric!

  • Heather Gale commented on October 22, 2016 at 9:52 pm

While I may agree with Pamela like Donald trump she has no business in our affairs

She should look to her countries barbaric practises before meddling in our affairs.

We banned trump from Scotland seems Ms Anderson might be too

  • Karen commented on October 23, 2016 at 12:23 am

Wild animals. The clue is in the name.

  • Heather commented on October 23, 2016 at 4:03 pm

    Stop

  • Gisèle De MUlder commented on October 23, 2016 at 4:17 pm

    STOP THIS CRUELTY !

  • Ramona commented on October 23, 2016 at 6:19 pm

Stop this unnecessary and crule act’s!

  • Naomi commented on October 24, 2016 at 10:41 am

It is barbaric and unnatural to cage these beautiful animals and then make them do things for money. I never thought that there was so many narrow minded people still supporting these circuses.

  • Nicky Steele commented on October 24, 2016 at 12:28 pm

Please ban this, it’s no longer acceptable

    • Gail hansen commented on October 26, 2016 at 7:45 pm

Forcing animals to entertain is disgusting and cruel. I can’t believe that the UK hasn’t banned it.

  • John McDonald commented on November 16, 2016 at 11:17 am

I’m amazed that these are still a thing! If you go to these acts, you’re sick in the head!
