On a flying visit to London this week, Pamela Anderson, with characteristic compassion, found time to speak out for animals.

After learning with dismay that wild-animal circuses are still legal in the UK, the actor and animal rights advocate immediately contacted Prime Minister Theresa May urging her to end these cruel and archaic performances. She wrote:

One of the things that I love the most about the U.K. is its strong reputation as a nation that opposes cruelty to animals. That’s why my mouth dropped when I learned that Britain still has not banned wild animals from circuses. With all due respect, Brexit is complicated, but kissing circus animal acts goodbye is easy as pie. . . .

Animal acts are embarrassingly archaic and have no place in modern Britain – or anywhere else.

Pamela joins more than 20,000 kind people who have e-mailed the PM calling for action on circuses. Other celebrities such as Michael Sheen, Martin Freeman, and Ann Widdecombe have also demanded an end to shows in which frightened lions, tigers, camels, zebras, and other animals are forced to perform absurd tricks in front of a noisy crowd.

Seventeen other countries have already banned wild-animal circuses, and Scotland looks set to follow in spring 2017. Please add your voice to the campaign, and urge England and Wales to ban wild-animal circuses, too!
