Four major UK restaurant chains have just launched new vegan options – further proof that 2016 really is the #YearOfTheVegan!

UK Vegan Chain Options

Compassionate eaters can now easily find something delicious to chow down in JD Wetherspoon’s, Zizzi Ristorante, Handmade Burger Co. and Las Iguanas!

JD Wetherspoon is a High Street institution in many towns across the UK. Its new vegan menu highlights all the dishes that the pub chain offers that are free from animal products, including pasta Pomodoro, samosas, and chickpea and spinach curry. The menu also provides handy tips on dishes that can be made vegan with a simple modification, including nachos (hold the sour cream and cheese) or corn on the cob (ask for it without the butter).

Italian chain Zizzi Ristorante‘s March 2016 announcement is truly exciting for vegan pizza lovers. They are now the first major restaurant chain in the UK to provide vegan pizza options that include a mozzarella alternative. With locations across the country, Zizzi makes it easy to boycott the cruel dairy industry and still enjoy a night on the town. And to top it off, they’ve introduced a vegan-friendly coconut and mango swirl gelato too!

Fancy Latin? Las Iguanas has got you covered. Yesterday, they released a new version of their vegan menu which clearly identifies which of their meals are vegan or can be made vegan. From Mexican classics like three mushroom fajitas to South American favourites like moqueca de palmitos and desserts like sorbet and tembleque, there’s no shortage of plant-based meals to accompany your Latin classic cocktails.

With locations up and down the country from Southampton to Aberdeen, Handmade Burger Co. is also catering to vegans, rolling out two new delicious vegan burgers this month. The Thai Vegetable, which features a Thai vegetable patty, grilled peppers, sweet chilli sauce, red onion and watercress, and the Veg-Mex, a falafel patty with handmade Mexican salsa, hand-crushed avocado, jalapeños, lettuce, tomato and red onion, join three other vegan options on their menu, making this chain the go-to place for vegan burgers.

As more and more Brits become aware of the health benefits of eating vegan as well as the horrific treatment and suffering of the animals bred for our plates, the demand for vegan options is only going to increase! These restaurants are leading the way by catering to those who don’t want to support the cruel meat, egg and dairy industries. Every time you request or order a vegan meal, you are casting a powerful vote against cruelty with your wallet. So go on, tuck in!
