Good news for mice, rabbits and guinea pigs – Switzerland will be the next country to end the sale of cruel cosmetics! Last week, Swiss authorities confirmed that, similar to the EU ban, they will restrict or prohibit the marketing of cosmetics if finished products or their ingredients have been tested on animals.

There’s no excuse for hurting and killing animals for the sake of make-up. Fortunately, experiments on animals for cosmetics products and their ingredients are being consigned to the history books in countries all over the world. Instead, companies have developed new humane testing methods to ensure that their products don’t harm humans or animals.

But, as in the EU, compassionate Swiss shoppers still have an important ethical choice to make when buying cosmetics. Companies may be complying with the cosmetics testing ban in Europe, but at the same time, they can be selling products in another market that have been tested on animals. By buying cosmetics from companies that are on PETA US’ list, you can be confident that you’re supporting only companies that don’t test any products on animals anywhere in the world for any market.

We applaud Switzerland for taking this compassionate step forward, and now, we must stop dishwasher detergent, furniture polish, air freshener and laundry products from being tested on animals in cruel experiments. Swiss authorities refuse to commit to banning household products testing and are instead taking their cue from the EU. Act now and ask EU leaders to make Europe a cruelty-free marketplace for household products and their ingredients, and let’s get Switzerland to follow suit:
