The First Step Towards a Fur-Free Russia?

Olga Shelest speaks out against cruel fur industryWe’ve just brought our campaign against fur to the country that buys more of it than any other in the world – Russia.

With well-known TV presenter (and vegan) Olga Shelest as the face of the campaign and a series of hard-hitting ads appearing on Moscow’s streets, people in Russia will soon have no excuse for overlooking the appalling cruelty that lies behind their animal-skin garments.

Olga admits that when she was younger, she owned a fur coat – before she learned the gruesome facts about where it came from. “When I see those girls now wearing coats with the paws and animal heads on them, it is the least sexy thing imaginable”, Olga says. That’s because animals on fur farms lead lives filled with pain and fear before they are killed in horrific ways – and many are skinned alive. In China, now the world’s biggest exporter of fur, more than 2 million cats and dogs are killed every year for their skin.

The new PETA ad, which features an image of a blood-stained fur coat alongside a rabbit, is designed to help people understand that fur is not compatible with compassion.
