WATCH: How Terrified, Trapped Coyotes Can Be Killed for Fashion

This 15-second video – which has received more than 25 million combined views and sparked outrage around the world – shows a terrified coyote who was shot after being trapped.

Winter-wear brand Canada Goose – which sells its coats and accessories in the UK – uses fur taken from coyotes trapped and killed in this way. These barbaric leghold traps crush their necks or slam shut on their legs, often cutting to the bone. Ensnared animals can suffer for days, facing blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and attacks by predators. Mothers who are desperate to get back to their starving pups have been known to try to chew off their own limbs in an effort to escape.

And the retailer doesn’t limit its cruelty to coyotes. It also sells jackets stuffed with the down of geese and ducks who spend their lives inside crowded, filthy sheds before being violently killed for their feathers and flesh. Some are still conscious when their throats are slit.

Compassionate consumers can still keep snug and warm as the mercury dips by shunning Canada Goose and its cruelly produced fur – and choosing instead from the many sustainable and beautiful alternatives available today. For that extra bit of insulation, seek out garments made from faux fur and innovative synthetic materials such as PrimaLoft, Thinsulate, Gore-Tex, Polartec Wind Pro, and Thermolite.
