Ingrid Newkirk

Since PETA Europe was founded in 1994, we’ve grown to more than 128,000 members and supporters. Fuelling this growth is our extraordinary embrace of the Internet and online resources to spread the animal rights message far and wide.

Using the web to motivate people to help animals is one of our goals – and we’re succeeding. Approximately 75,000 people (up from 40,000 last year) now subscribe to our e-newsletter to learn about current animal protection issues and to respond to action alerts in support of our campaigns.

This past year marked the launch of several new online projects for PETA Europe. We established a presence on the extremely popular social-networking sites Bebo and Facebook, and we also debuted PETA Europe’s blog, Fish & Chimps, which has been steadily rising in the ranks of the blogosphere. Often linked to from other major blogs and websites from around the world, Fish & Chimps keeps readers up-to-date on our campaigns, provides information on ways to help and gives an animal rights oriented view of news from around the world.

Of course, other PETA hallmark strategies are as critical as ever. These include media-grabbing, thought-provoking demonstrations and adverts, grassroots as well as shareholder activism, our fantastic youth outreach programme and our ability to work around the world with our affiliates in the US, Germany, The Netherlands, India and Asia – all of which have helped us make much progress this year, which you’ll read about on the pages that follow.

We thank all our members and supporters, whose generosity, compassion and activism made these victories for animals possible!

Kind regards,

Ingrid Newkirk
