Topshop Unveils Anti-Fur Window Display at Flagship Store
In the dynamic window display, PETA's iconic symbol – the word "fur" with a diagonal line running through it – spans the window next to a mannequin wearing a coat made entirely from stuffed animals. The display depicts the staggering amount of animals it takes to make just one fur coat. Across the front of the window, a strap line goes on to list the shocking numbers of animals killed for fur coats made from various species. "We are proud to further our support of PETA in their great campaign for the ethical treatment of animals and continue to say NO to FUR in Topshop", says Topshop brand director Jane Shepherdson.
Why is Topshop proud to be fur-free? Animals trapped for fur in the wild suffer for days before having their chests stomped on or their necks broken by trappers. On fur farms, animals spend their entire lives confined to tiny, filthy cages, where they often go insane before they are killed by poisoning, gassing, anal electrocution or neck-breaking. A recent undercover investigation of fur farms in China, the world's leading exporter of fur, documented that millions of dogs and cats were bludgeoned, hanged, strangled with wire nooses and bled to death for their fur. This dog and cat fur is often deliberately mislabelled as fur from other species and exported to other countries to be sold to unsuspecting customers. Take a stand against cruelty by only patronising shops which have a policy against selling items with real fur and staying away from stores which still deal in death.
