Person of the Year: Stella McCartney

We are recognising Stella McCartney as PETA's Person of the Year for digging in her non-leather heels and showing the world of high fashion that designers can be mega-creative without being destructive. In addition to keeping fur and leather out of her collections, this year, Stella brainstormed an innovative online anti-fur campaign with Second Life. The campaign drew participants from around the world.

Stella McCartney has also narrated a video exposé showing how animals are cruelly killed for their pelts; designed an exclusive T-shirt for H&M, the proceeds from which benefited PETA; opened the doors of her boutiques in New York and London to host animal rights events and even appealed to airlines to end the use of leather seats.

In November 2007, Stella was named Designer of the Year at the British Fashion Awards. Her fur-free and leather-free collections have won praise from critics and have highlighted the increasing public demand for animal-friendly fashion. Her fragrances are also cruelty-free.
