Slice the tops off your peppers and remove the seeds and white flesh from the inside. Then use a sharp knife to carve a face into the side of each pepper. Toss cooked spaghetti with a few spoonfuls of dairy-free pesto and put the pasta inside the peppers. For an extra-creepy effect, pull a few strands out through the “eyes” and “mouths”.

Here’s the recipe for these spine-chilling sweet treats:

1/2 cup white icing
1/4 cup black icing
2 cups vegan marshmallows
1 tsp. vanilla essence
2 Tbsp. maple syrup
1 Tbsp. + 1 tsp. coconut oil
4 drops green food-colouring gel
6 cups brown-rice cereal
1/2 cup vegan dark chocolate

  • Make the “eyeballs” first. Dot circles of the white icing onto baking paper and leave to set. Then add dots of the black icing to the middle of each.
  • To make the “heads”, melt the marshmallows, vanilla essence, maple syrup, and 1 tablespoonful of the coconut oil in a saucepan. Remove from the heat and gradually add in the green food colouring. Stir in the brown-rice cereal and roll into balls.
  • Push the eyes into place on the ghoulies’ faces. Melt dark chocolate and remaining coconut oil then paint “mouths” on using a cocktail stick.

Makes around 12 ghoulies
