London – Bollywood actor Chitrangda Singh appears in a striking new joint ad for People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India and Joker, her brand-new film released on cinema screens across India today. The ad captures Singh "bleeding" after an alien uses a syringe-like mascara wand on her eye, and the caption reads, "What If Aliens Tested on Humans? Ban Cosmetics Testing on Animals!" PETA India and Singh's point? That testing cosmetics on animals is harmful and deadly. It is also bad science, and it should be relegated to the history books. The ad was shot by ace photographer Atul Kasbekar. Stylist Mehak Oberoi handled Singh's hair and make-up, and the digital imaging was done by Prashish More.

"I think it's a good idea for the consumer to be aware because then you can decide to boycott or not, support or not, certain companies which are still testing on animals", says Singh in an exclusive interview with PETA India.

In 2003, the European Parliament voted to end the testing of cosmetics and cosmetics ingredients on animals across the EU. A ban on the sale of all cosmetics and toiletries containing ingredients tested on animals is due to become complete by 2013 – but the European Commission is now considering introducing significant loopholes into the ban or postponing the deadline. The commission is expected to announce its decision later this summer. PETA India is currently campaigning for a similar ban on animal tests for cosmetics in India, a campaign which has received support from the Indian Council of Medical Research.

Singh joins a growing list of celebrities – including Pamela Anderson, Paul McCartney, Ricky Gervais, Kimberly Wyatt and Alicia Silverstone – who have taken a stand against testing cosmetics on animals.

Joker is directed by Shirish Kunder and stars Akshay Kumar, Sonakshi Sinha, Minissha Lamba and Shreyas Talpade, along with Singh. The film is jointly produced by Kumar's Hari OM Productions and Farah Khan's Three's Company and presented by UTV Motion Pictures.
