Colchester – As part of its Sexiest Vegetarian in Europe contest, PETA has been searching for the continent’s cutest and most compassionate people. Colchester resident Sophie Barrett has beaten out hundreds of entrants from across Europe to become one of just four remaining female finalists.

Fourteen years ago, Sophie – who loves cooking, clubbing and cats – swore off meat for good. “The reason I have stayed a vegetarian is because I have learned about the cruel and unimaginable ways animals raised for meat are treated”, she explains. Now, when the part-time model isn’t posing for the camera, she’s whipping up delicious vegetarian dishes for her family and friends.

“On average, vegetarians are healthier and have more energy than meat-eaters – and that makes them sexier too”, says PETA Special Projects Coordinator Abi Izzard. “One look at our radiant line-up of compassionate, sexy vegetarian finalists and it’s clear that they’re all winners.”

PETA will determine the two winners – one male and one female – based on the finalists’ popularity with voters, their commitment to the animal rights cause and, of course, how hot they are! The winners will each receive a bundle of prizes from some of the UK’s top ethical companies – such as The Throw Company, Vintage Roots, The Redwood Wholefood Company, Bulldog and Bourgeois Bohème – after they are announced on 24 September.
