London – The veggie voters have spoken, and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has been selected as PETA’s 2005 “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian”. In the fifth annual poll on PETA.org.uk, Martin narrowly edged out a host of other veggie Valentinos and Venuses, including Joss Stone (2), Thom Yorke (3), Natalie Portman (4), Reese Witherspoon (5), Avril Lavigne, Joaquin Phoenix,  Prince as well as previous winners Andre 3000, Tobey Maguire, Josh Hartnett, Alicia Silverstone, and Shania Twain.

Chris Martin, the first Brit to win the title of “World’s Sexiest Vegetarian”, and his band Coldplay have gone to number one with their new album X & Y. Martin and wife Gwyneth Paltrow are known for their love of vegan cuisine, and they made international headlines recently when they gave daughter Apple a vegan birthday cake from Moby’s New York eatery “teany”.

Going green is all the rage among the red carpet set. Celebrities cite many reasons for forgoing flesh foods, from avoiding the cruelty that is inherent in all meat production to improving their health and energy levels to helping the environment by not contributing to factory-farm pollution.

The complete list of vegetarian celebs who were in the running in this year’s poll is available on PETA.org.uk.
