Star Posts Shocking PETA Video on Her Web Site, Asks Fans to Dump POM

London – Pamela Anderson is putting the squeeze on juicemaker POM over the company’s refusal to halt cruel and unnecessary animal tests. Launching PETA’s “POM Horrible” campaign, the Baywatch babe has posted a graphic video on her hugely popular Web site, PamelaAnderson.com, and is asking her fans to boycott POM until the company gives its written assurance that it has permanently stopped all tests on animals.

In one experiment that POM funded, mother mice were fed POM juice and their week-old babies were locked in a chamber with almost no oxygen for 45 minutes, causing severe brain damage. They were then killed so that experimenters could dissect their brains. In an erectile-dysfunction experiment, rabbits’ arteries were severed in order to induce impotence; the rabbits were then fed POM juice.

The US Food and Drug Administration has confirmed that POM’s deadly juice experiments on animals are not required by law, and major pomegranate-juice makers, including Naked, Old Orchard and Frutzzo – as well as nearly 20 other juice companies – don’t use or harm any animals in their product tests. Juice giant Welch’s states on its Web site, “With the broad range of research alternatives available today, we at Welch’s have determined that we can remain committed to scientific research … without the further funding of animal research”.

Says Anderson, “Considering the cruel experiments on animals that POM is funding, I’m calling on everyone to get Naked instead”.
