Paris – What do Stella McCartney, Joaquin Phoenix, Joss Stone and Natalie Portman have in common? They’re all sexy, and it’s no coincidence that they’re also all vegetarian, but you don’t have to be a celebrity to take advantage of this beauty secret. Just ask 28-year-old Parisian brunette Stéphanie Rebato, who went vegetarian when she was 18. After thousands of votes were tallied, Stéphanie was selected from hundreds of hot entrants across Europe to be named the female winner in People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA) “Sexiest Vegetarian Alive” contest.

“What turns me on in a man is the intelligence of the heart”, says Stéphanie, an actor, artist and ardent fur foe, who as a child rescued baby birds who had fallen from their nests and came to the aid of homeless cats. “The kind of man who respects every life form and who has the guts to voice his convictions for animals loud and clear.” Asks Stéphanie, “How could I love a man who doesn’t feel the remotest compassion for animals?”

Stéphanie will receive a voucher for delicious meat-free foods from the Redwood Wholefood Company, three bottles of vegan organic wine from Vintage Roots and a voucher towards a VegiVenture holiday. A photo of Stéphanie will also appear in PETA’s international quarterly magazine Animal Times.

Why are vegetarians sexier? On average, vegetarians are thinner and trimmer than meat-eaters and less prone to impotence – the cholesterol and saturated fats in animal products slow the flow of blood to all the body’s vital organs, not just the heart.

“The people have spoken, and Stéphanie is the sexiest female vegetarian alive”, says PETA Assistant Campaign Coordinator Lauren Bowey. “But in our book, all the entrants are winners. They are enjoying all the health benefits of vegetarianism while living compassionately every day.”
