Greenford, Ealing – PETA is offering a reward of up to £1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons who shot a cat with an airgun on Halloween, leaving her with a fractured lower jaw and blood gushing from her mouth. This is the second time that Lola, an 18-month-old tabby, has been shot in a month. Her injuries were likened to those caused by being hit by a car, but her owner found a pellet containing her fur and knew immediately what had happened. Lola was operated on the following day and is now recovering nicely at home.

Would you please share this information with your audience to help apprehend those responsible for this cruel act?

PETA is urging residents to keep a watchful eye on their animal companions and to keep them indoors. Because animals cannot report incidents of abuse against them and can do little to fight back, they are the perfect “practice” victims for violent people.

History shows that past incidents involving cruelty to animals regularly appear in the records of serial rapists and murderers. Young killers Mary Bell, Robert Thompson and Jon Venables as well as serial murderers Ian Huntley, Thomas Hamilton (the Dunblane massacre), Fred West, Dennis Nilsen, Ian Brady and Raoul Moat all started out by deliberately harming animals.

“It is imperative that any community faced with such horrific abuse of animals take measures to find the culprit or culprits and stop the violence”, says PETA spokesperson Ben Williamson. “Animal abusers are a danger to everyone – they take their issues out on whoever is available to them, human or non-human.”

Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to contact the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals on 0300 1234 999.
