PETA Warns That Animal Abusers Are a Serious Threat to Whole Community and Likely to Escalate Behaviour Unless Stopped

Manuden, Essex – PETA is offering a reward of up to £1,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for shooting and killing Stella, a beloved 10-year-old silver Persian cat. Stella went missing on Sunday, 7 August, and her bullet-ridden body was found 200 metres away from her family’s home in Manuden the following Tuesday evening. A local veterinarian confirmed that she had been shot twice in the neck at point-blank range with an air rifle.

“It’s imperative that any community faced with a cruel and callous act such as this take measures to find the culprit and bring him or her to justice”, says PETA Foundation Director Elisa Allen. “Animal abusers are a danger to everyone – they take their issues out on whoever is available to them, human or non-human – and must be caught before they act again.”

History shows that past incidents involving cruelty to animals regularly appear in the records of serial rapists and murderers. Young killers Mary Bell, Robert Thompson, and Jon Venables as well as serial murderers Ian Huntley, Thomas Hamilton (the Dunblane massacre), Fred West, Dennis Nilsen, Ian Brady, and Raoul Moat all started out by deliberately harming animals.
