SYLVIE GUILLEM SHOWS FANS HOW TO RAISE THE ‘BARRE’ IN NEW PETA VIDEO: GO VEGAN!

Legendary Dancer Teams Up With PETA to Promote Meat-Free Meals

London – Iconic dancer Sylvie Guillem has teamed up with PETA in a new video revealing how anyone can jump-start the new year by switching to healthy and compassionate vegan meals. The beautifully shot video shows the retired ballet dancer – who’s been called “the greatest dancer of our time” – stretching, strolling, and candidly explaining why she’s happy she went vegan more than five years ago and wants to inspire others to do the same.

“Animals feel pain and love and joy, just as humans” do, she explains. But in the industrialised meat, dairy, and egg industries, animals are denied everything that’s natural and important to them. “Some of them don’t even feel the fresh air”, she says. “They don’t see the light.”

Guillem notes that going vegan is a powerful way for an individual to reduce animal suffering, since each person who goes vegan saves many animals each year from daily misery and a terrifying death. “A drop of water can’t stop a fire alone”, she says. “But a drop of water, plus another one, plus another one, then you have the rain, and the rain can stop the fire.”

Going vegan is also a great way to boost your health, as vegans are less likely to suffer from heart disease, strokes, diabetes, cancer, and obesity than meat-eaters are. Plant-based meals are greener, too, because the meat industry is a major producer of the greenhouse-gas emissions that contribute to climate change.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – offers a

“” pledge site, where anyone who wants to try eating plant-based meals for 30 days can sign up to receive daily recipes, tips on eating out, and more.

Guillem is a renowned dancer who performed ballet and contemporary dance for nearly 40 years before retiring in late 2015. She joins a growing list of celebrities – including Vivienne Westwood, Alicia Silverstone, Paul McCartney, and many others – who have teamed up with PETA to promote healthy and humane meat-free meals.
