Body Positivity Influencer Promotes Vegan Eating
To her hundreds of thousands of online followers, 27-year-old Sophie Lait is a shining light, a beacon of positivity reminding us that not only is every body shape beautiful, but also that every animal is someone. Now, Sophie has teamed up with PETA to launch a new campaign video explaining how leaving animals off her plate makes her healthy and happy and is an easy way for her to extend kindness to others.
Everybody’s Body Is Their Own
Sophie is just one of many vegans who prove that we don’t need meat, eggs, or dairy to enjoy life, but, for animals, these products rob them of the one precious life they have.
For us to drink their milk, mother cows are forcibly separated from their beloved calves, while nuggets come from chickens who’ve spent their whole lives in darkness without room to spread a wing before their throats were cut.
Meanwhile, bacon comes from pigs who are still just babies when their throats are slit, and fish are scooped from their homes, gasping, and cut open while they’re still alive.
In the UK, over 85% of animals are confined to filthy factory farms, but no matter where they’re raised, animals raised for their flesh, milk, and eggs are always killed in gruesome ways and never offered an ounce of kindness, even on the worst day of their short lives.
“Eating vegan is about feeling my best – inside and out – and living authentically, knowing that no one suffered for the food on my plate.”
There Are So Many Positives to Living Vegan
Lait uses her platform to empower women and showcase how easy and fun it is to live vegan, even offering followers a front-row seat to her fully vegan wedding.
Aside from being kinder to animals, vegans enjoy a lower risk of heart disease, many cancers, and diabetes. Many who’ve made the switch also report better skin, more energy, and even a better sex life. Plus, vegan foods have a smaller carbon footprint, as the meat industry is a leading producer of the greenhouse gases that contribute to climate catastrophe.
With so many supermarkets, restaurants, fast-food joints, and holiday destinations now catering to vegans, it’s a way of living life to the fullest without missing out!
Empower Yourself – Challenge Your Speciesism
Just like the idea that we all have to be a ‘size 0,’ the idea that some animals’ lives matter more than others is silly, steeped in a prejudice called ‘speciesism.’
In all the ways that matter, a pig is no different from a dog, and challenging why we eat some animals and love others is not unlike learning to love ourselves in a world where advertising and propaganda push beauty standards.
Raising animals in miserable conditions for human gain when there’s a world of delicious and nutritious vegan food out there might be normalised, but it’s far from normal. We don’t have to limit ourselves to the meaty meals we were raised on; we can thrive and let animals do the same.
As Sophie puts it in her video, “Learning to treat myself with compassion hasn’t always been easy, especially when it comes to food, but every meal is a chance to show kindness to myself and to others.”
