‘Skinned’ PETA Supporter Strung Up Outside Coach in Grisly Anti-Leather Display
London – “Leather is someone’s skin. Wear Vegan!” That’s the message PETA supporters brought to shoppers at the Regent Street Coach store today, as one was hung upside down and had their throat “slit” before being “skinned”. The gruesome display pointed out that humans and cows are the same in all the ways that matter, encouraged consumers to opt for vegan alternatives and called out Coach’s continued sale of animal- and planet-killing leather.
Footage and more images are available here and here.
“Every leather bag is stitched with the misery of a thinking, feeling being who died in agony,” says PETA Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner. “PETA is calling on Coach to stop peddling the sliced-off skin of tormented animals, and encouraging shoppers to keep cruelty out of their closets by choosing fashionable vegan options that leave cows in peace.”
Cows have friends, hold grudges against other cows, and mourn when a loved one dies or when they’re separated from each other. A PETA exposé of the world’s largest leather processor – which has been linked to Coach – showed that workers brand calves on the face, beat cows and bulls, and shock them with electric prods. The leather industry also contributes to the climate catastrophe, land devastation, deforestation, pollution, water contamination, and loss of biodiversity.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to abuse in any way” – points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow PETA on Facebook, X, TikTok, or Instagram.
