About PETA UK

Founded in 1980 in the United States, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) believes that animals deserve the most basic rights – consideration of their own best interests, regardless of whether they are useful to humans. Like you, animals are capable of suffering and have interests in leading their own lives; therefore, they are not ours to use – for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation, or for any other reason. PETA educates policymakers and the public about cruelty to animals and promotes an understanding of the right of all animals to be treated with respect.

PETA works through public education, cruelty investigations, research, animal rescue, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement and direct action.

PETA Europe, based in London, was launched in 1993 and was PETA’s first international office.
