This Is Why Nearly 50,000 People Have Just Written a Letter to Theresa May

Posted by 6 months ago | Permalink | Comments (159)

Today, we delivered an open letter, signed by almost 50,000 compassionate people, to the Home Office asking Home Secretary Theresa May not to grant a licence to a breeding centre that could send over a thousand dogs a year to laboratories for terrifying experiments.

When the American-owned company B&K Universal originally applied for planning permission to build the breeding facility in Grimston, near Hull, it was roundly rejected by the local council. But in terrible news for dogs, that decision was overturned by central government officials. Now, the Home Secretary is the only person who can stop this, by withholding a licence to breed animals.

Beagle demo 4

If this breeding centre is built, mother dogs would be permanently confined to a sterile, windowless prison and forced to churn out litter after litter of puppies every year. When needed, these puppies would be shipped off to another unnatural environment – a laboratory. There, they could endure painful procedures such as being forced to inhale high concentrations of pesticides, being given heart attacks and being exposed to toxic chemicals, after which they would be killed and dissected.

Animals are not ours to experiment onJo-Anne McArthur | We Animals

In fact, because the proposed facility doesn’t even include any outside runs for the dogs – contrary to EU recommendations – Cruelty Free International took the Home Office to court, questioning why this facility was granted an exemption from the requirement to provide outdoor runs.

Disgracefully, the Home Office stated that the beagles – members of an active, playful and inquisitive breed – do not need to be provided with outdoor runs, and the London High Court has just declared that this exemption was made on lawful grounds, even though the law requires outdoor runs whenever possible.

All dogs should have the chance to see, smell and experience the outside world. The justification for denying them this basic right is deeply flawed, and we’ve written a detailed letter to the Home Office to that effect. Dogs who are denied access to the outdoors frequently suffer from problems such as canine compulsive disorder, which includes behaviour such as spinning, self-mutilation and repetitive grooming. Beagles should be allowed to express their personalities and behave like dogs – not treated like walking test tubes by experimenters.

In addition, if this appalling breeding centre is allowed to go ahead, it could pave the way for more facilities like this to be granted licences in the UK – and we simply can’t allow that.

Thank you to everyone who has spoken out against this cruelty. We’ll keep you posted on what’s happening next in the campaign and how you can help.

Animals are the victims of sick minds in a sick society. They suffer because of our fear, ignorance and lack of imagination. Scientists should invent new ways to make their research and leave animals alone. How can they torture and kill animals every day treating them as objects for their service and pet their dog at home? Shame on them…They have blood on their hands and one day they will be considered as criminals.

This is just vile. I hesitate to use the word evil, but I can’t think of a better word. As a dog lover and a person who has owned 2 beagles in my life (both bitches incidentally), it’s nauseating to think that such a lovable, harmless animal can be subjugated to such horrific cruelty. To think some sick mind even conjured up this idea is scary, to know that it’s been more or less green lit by this government is astonishing! Do the right, human and humane thing Mrs. May, make sure this does not happen and isn’t even considered again!

If an alien species landed on Earth of much greater intelligence than us (they would have to be to get here in the first place) would it be acceptable for them to experiment on us humans. If you say no then you cannot defend us “experimenting” (torturing) animals.

Beagles are adorable. PLEASE stop the torture, fear, and suffering of them. Stop experimenting on them. Where is your compassion? They were created to be companions for kind people, not objects to be put through horrific testing procedures. Ir breaks my heart.

    • Debra Lessard commented on June 19, 2016 at 1:44 am

Beagles are the best pets. They are loyal and a fun breed. Use a 3D printer for your experiments. You can gage what damage you will do without killing one of these voiceless dogs. Humans have lost their moral compass. Thanks GW you really screwed the pooch with your reign as king. Enough animal testing. After all these years you should have come up with a way not to kill these animals. They are alive. They endure your torture your foul behavior. Their reward is death and vivisection. I hate what all of you do. Your Frankenstein labs who will ever survive. You are not scientist. You are murders for profit. Capitalism sucks. Humans believe they have the right to kill primates of all kinds. You money grabbing corporations are responsible for most the Misery on Earth. I bet you don’t even care. Why should you. You got your and FU to everyone else. Capitalism is destroying our ecosystems and all of our precious animals that you mount as Trophy. You who do this are sick. Hunting is not necessary unless you are starving. These big Gun Clubs going to Africa to kill and take home the heads of lions or any other animals that get in your way. I really thought a bull Elephant got revenge when the hunter shot the bull charged and stomped him to death. I like the poetic justice. Hunters for Trophy have too much freaking Money. Also they have no soul. Anyone who can shoot a beautiful animal needs their heads examined. All you Hemingway want to be. Or is it John Huston? Either way you are wrong to take another ones life for your pleasure. You are no better then the warlords who are in Africa. To me you are scum and murders. Hope next time you go hunting you will remember the Bull Elephant that stomped the hunter who was trying to kill him.

    • Alan commented on July 11, 2016 at 5:44 pm

Arguing the welfare before experiments will not help animals. Anyone wanting to seriously stop animal experiments now should support the calling of EDM 373 public debate that will see an end to all animal experiments ONCE AND FOR ALL? The old ‘better welfare’ argument has been shouted out for 200 years, and is not helping animals in labs at all. Animal experiments don’t work and predict for humans, simple, and should be abandoned now on that fact. You know the time is right, so does modern science and patients and of course the animals. No more wasting time ah

It’s just about money and jobs that’s all it is. The vivisection industry has grown into a Behemoth employing thousands of people from breeding to experimentation.
So with that in mind plus the huge sums of money made from it there is so little will by the government to do anything about it even though they promised they would.
They don’t seem to care too much if it’s hampering real developments for humans.
The whole thing enrages me so much money as always trumps all else.

Experimenting on animals is not the way forward, not only is it cruel and inhumane it is totally immoral! I therefore am shocked beyond belief that even after this application being rejected by Grimston nr Hull local council it has been given the go ahead by central government officials! As a British citizen I do not want this breeding programme licensed and I want the programme rejected! So I say NO to this disgusting ill treatment of dogs in Britain.

This is immoral. Do no harm, do no wrong. Where is the consent given by these animals that allow humans to test on them. Animals have different physiology and different ways of dealing with diseases. Medication or goods for human use should only be tested on humans, To bring life into this world to then subject it to abuse is barbaric.

  • Jane Wojcik commented on June 10, 2016 at 7:55 pm

no animal should be bred for experimentation. They should not be used for cosmetic testing. They should not be used to provide organs for donation. When we become ill, we should learn to accept our lot, live the rest of our lives in the best way possible , use whatever remedies are available and be prepared to die when it is our time. We share this planet with thousands of animals, plants etc., and we are not more important than any one of them. We need to accept our place in the chain of life and respect all the other links.

Isn’t it time there was a political party set up which has a manifesto which protects and furthers the interests of all forms of life (EXCEPT HUMAN), and our amazing planet Earth (to stop humans from destroying it), ON THE TOP OF THE AGENDA. And everything to do with the human race goes straight to THE BOTTOM (in fact just leave the humans bit off the manifesto altogether, we don’t deserve any consideration at all). You might be surprised at how many people would vote for you. What use is the human race? We are clearly a mistake, we shouldn’t exist at all. Does power HAVE to be used in a violent, selfish, stupid, uncaring, mindless, totally destructive way? Won’t/can’t stop until we have destroyed everything around us? What does this make us? What is going on? Will this wanton destruction and disregard for every other creature on earth never end until there is nothing left? We will be sorry then. If those b******s in the horror laboratories want to torture and murder why don’t they do it to one another? They will enjoy it just as much. Leave the animals alone, they are innocent.

I receive criticism sometimes for defending animals instead of human rights, but I do not care less. Humans have the capacity to try for themselves to make things better, animals don’t. Instead animals are being killed, eaten, beaten, tortured, used, abuse, humiliated, etc It would be amazing if one day a year all animal defenders could come out to the street to protest all around the world. We should have an Animal Day!!

You would have to have psychopathic tendencies defined as: A personality disorder characterized by diminished empathy and remorse. If you have no compassion within you, there is nothing you could not do and a person in power whom lacks any empathy or conscience is a very dangerous person. People who are cruel and whom deem it acceptable to put money before morals will always lose the respect of the nation, and they will lose themselves.

After WWll there were judicial reviewing systems set up to indict the war’s torturers; some of these courts are still stumbling along; the process has proved to be inadequate – with some of the worst offenders being honored (and often provided with new positions where their heartlessness might be used without the possibility of challenge). Torturers on the winning side have often been ignored. “Humanity” has proved ineffectual. The charade continues… there are no “ultimate” judicial authorities – and initiatives involving crimes against other innocent living creatures show us how depraved the people administering our system have become. Could we possibly create a justice system which would indict the judges who enable this to continue?

This is a concentration camp for Beagles bred just to be experimented on. Horrible!

Well done to Hull Council for taking a stand.

If the Home Secretary does not stop this atrocity then I have lost faith in all politicians and the judiciary as Cruelty Free International took this to the High Court and lost. It makes me think they were in league with each other

Animal testing needs to be stopped worldwide and why hasn’t the British Government banned the abuse of wild animals in circuses. David Cameron supposedly agreed to this when he came to power but some Conservative MPs blocked the Bill. Shame on all of them.

  • Roneta Karmonaite commented on June 14, 2016 at 5:12 pm

No ANIMALS should be used for experiments. It is wicked and very cruel. It’s not necessary. Animals are not like hunans. Therefore testing is not useful in any way. These people are SADISTS. How on earth can they do this to innocent animals. Shame on you. Perhaps they can be tested on. After all they are supposed to be human’s so. results would be much better. So stop it now!!!!

Will we never learn? animals are not here for this sort of horrible treatment. Surely in this day and age of science there are other ways of testing – Theresa May should be ashamed of herself for even considering this or giving it the time of day.

I as a British citizen say we all as British citizens and tax payers have to he right to say no to this breeding centre. We pay the politicians wages. So therefore they have to listen to us, and what we want and don’t want. This is just a money making thing and the people involved have no morals. We all know chemicals and pesticides are dangerous so therefore there is so need to test them to find out. We are not stupid

  • g. millrine commented on June 19, 2016 at 7:08 am

Charles Darwin made the point that between animals and humans, there is no difference in terms of the capacity of each to feel pain, sadness, misery or pleasure. Medical research has moved on from more primitive form of testing of medical and other products. The inability to feel that pain of a sentient beings-animals- poses a question mark of the humanity of the person who inflicts that suffering. It often looks as if the most developed species on Earth- humans- are also the worst.

How can anyone do such horrific work, then go home and be lovingly greeted by their own pet dogs? It is not a work program for 2016. It must be that the grant money is too much to turn down. There you have it,GREED OVER COMPASSION. How can you sleep at night knowing that these sweet, loving, friendly dogs are suffering? maybe you can do this work thinking it is ok, but at the end of your life, God will ask you what you did to his creatures. You won’t like the answer.

Please stop experimenting on animals. We surely know enough about chemical experiments to be able to project outcomes using calculations and precedents already set, which only need to be augmented or downsized. We don’t need to use animals for anything further. There are also enough people willing to volunteer to use themselves as guinea pigs to be able to leave animals alone. You can help the world become a more compassionate place by refusing to allow places like this to spring up and proliferate. After all, if there were no more animals on which to experiment, we would just have to be creative and brilliantly inventive.

    Yours faithfully,

    Gabrielle Mullan

Animal experimentation needs to stop now, it’s gone on long enough! Why do humans think they have the right to do this? We don’t

  • Amanda jennings commented on July 6, 2016 at 10:55 am

Animal experimentation is supposed to be decreasing because of advances in using alternatives. So why oh why is the government allowing this to go ahead ! This would open the flood gates for others. For these trusting creatures to be bred, not knowing a kind hand . To then be sent far and wide to be used in cruel experiments. Sadly some in prominent members within the government are not interested in animal welfare, so have no compassion or empathy. I’m ashamed to be part of the human race with how some evil lowlifes treat other creatures. Please I beg you for this not to go ahead.

  • Marjorie Dixon-Rice commented on July 8, 2016 at 9:54 am

The physiology of animals is totally different to that of humans, so it is questionable as to how much use these experiments are anyway. Animals are not there for the convenience of people and it is time to stop this cruelty. Let Great Britain set an example.

  • The Voices of Animals commented on July 8, 2016 at 5:37 pm

This is completely atrocious! Anybody who thinks this is fair is not even worth my time. If this happens, we will all wonder where human kind went wrong. • Jane Goodwin commented on November 13, 2016 at 10:27 pm

Each and every scientist should undergo the exact treatment they inflict on these animals and then tell us ‘ it’s in humans best interests ‘ . If humans were the superior beings we would not harm each other , inflict suffering on all other creatures on earth or act on at least one of the seven deadly sins each day .
If joe blogs treated his pet as bad as these ‘ bred for experimentation ‘ animals , someone would call the Police or RSPCA and find themselves before the Courts . Surely it’s not right to have laws that are in place for the majority but not for others .
How can they that inflict completely uneccessary suffering on an innocent animal , or someone that gives this the ‘ green light ‘ sleep easy in thier bed !
If they feel unwell they see the GP , the experiment animals have no choice ! They just feel ill or in pain permanently until they die or get put to sleep ! Torture is illegal as far as I know . Stamp out this outrageous treatment NOW
