Vegan Chef Omari McQueen Serves Up Free Vegan Chicken in Peckham

Peckham may be known for its fried chicken scene, but local vegan chef Omari McQueen joined PETA to show south Londoners that they can enjoy all the flavour without the cruelty. Beneath our giant “Bro. Don’t Eat Me!” billboard, Omari handed out free vegan fried chicken from Oowee Vegan, encouraging passers-by to choose food that leaves chickens in peace, not pieces.

“I love showing people that choosing vegan doesn’t mean missing out on the foods you enjoy. Chickens are individuals who deserve kindness, and with so many delicious vegan options available, it’s never been easier to leave them off our plates.”

Omari McQueen

Omari has long been championing vegan food. He previously received PETA’s Compassionate Kid Award after launching his own range of vegan dips at just 10 years old. He also won a PETA Vegan Food Award for his cookbook, Omari McQueen’s Best Bites Cookbook.

‘Bro. Don’t Eat Me!’

Chickens are intelligent, sensitive individuals. They form complex social relationships, dream while they sleep, and can worry about what may happen in the future. Yet chickens raised for meat are deliberately bred to grow so unnaturally large that many suffer from painful leg deformities, heart problems, and other debilitating conditions.

Chickens shouldn’t suffer and be killed for a meal, especially when delicious vegan options are widely available.
