Inspiring Vegan Activists Crash London Fashion Week

As London Fashion Week kicks off, a group of brave female activists has crashed the event with a striking protest to draw attention to the cruelty inherent in the production of fur, leather, shearling, and other animal-derived materials.

To remind people that there’s nothing fashionable about exploiting and killing animals for their skin, fur, wool, or feathers, the topless activists stood proud, showing off bold writing across their chests that read, “Wear Your Own Skin.”

On fur farms, animals are driven insane inside tiny wire cages before finally being painfully slaughtered. The leather industry is responsible for the deaths of over a billion animals every year, including cows, pigs, goats, dogs, and cats. Investigations of shearing sheds in the world’s biggest wool-exporting countries have revealed that sheep are kicked, punched, and mutilated. And the down feathers used to stuff jackets are often yanked out of live birds.

Many people have no idea about the cruelty that millions of animals around the globe endure to satisfy the demand for fashion. But this eye-catching demonstration aims to help change that. Thankfully, the protest comes as cruelty-free fashion is making waves in the industry – Michael Kors and Gucci recently announced that they’ll no longer use fur, and forward-thinking companies are embracing vegan alternatives to leather, down, and wool.
