Save Crocodiles, Lizards And Snakes From Being Skinned

Before their skin reaches shop shelves, animals endure a life of misery, pain, and fear – and many are skinned alive.

PETA has repeatedly exposed the horrors within the wildlife-skins industry. Thousands of snakes are cruelly confined and then bashed on the head with hammers and impaled with hooks while still moving. Lizards are tied up and beheaded without being stunned. Workers slit ostriches’ throats just for Birkin bags – the birds must wait in line as their friends are slaughtered one by one. In a PETA exposé of the exotic-skins industry, a worker employed a crude “nape stab” method to kill a crocodile, attempting to sever the spinal cord and likely causing extreme pain and a slow, agonising death. The animal’s legs continued to move for at least 23 minutes.

These are just some examples of the cruelty inherent in the wildlife-skins industry. Every bag, belt, or other item made from the skin of an animal is the product of horrific abuse. Please never wear or buy wildlife skins.

Dear {contact_data~title} {contact_data~firstName} {contact_data~lastName}, I was horrified to learn that Hermès is still selling wildlife skins – even after hearing from PETA that crocodiles, alligators, lizards, and ostriches suffer their whole lives before being violently killed for expensive bags, belts, and accessories. A PETA US eyewitness investigation revealed that alligators on a farm in Texas that supplied an Hermès-owned tannery were kept in fetid water in dank, dark sheds and denied sunshine, fresh air, clean water, and basic medical care. A worker cut into the necks of more than 500 conscious alligators as they struggled to escape. Some were flailing and kicking for minutes after workers tried to kill them. On a farm in Zimbabwe, tens of thousands of Nile crocodiles were confined to concrete pits from birth to slaughter. Many skins from their stomachs are sent to an Hermès-owned tannery. It takes two or three crocodiles to make just one handbag. No matter the source – or the “standards” touted by brands – products made from animal skins involve forcing highly intelligent, sensitive animals to endure squalid imprisonment and a violent death. Please make a strong statement against animal abuse by ending your sale of wildlife skins.
