PETA Sends Bullfighter a Heart – Because She Clearly Needs One
As female bullfighter Olga Casado celebrates killing young bulls, we sent her a body part that isn’t an ear or a tail, but one she seems to lack: a heart.
Along with the plush heart, we sent Casado a letter, urging her to hang up her cape and stop tormenting and killing bulls. These gentle, social, clever individuals, thanks to bullfighters like Casado, spend their final moments frightened, stripped of their dignity (and body parts).
Merciless Slaughter
During a typical Spanish bullfight, bullfighters relentlessly chase a bull, driving him to exhaustion. Once the bull is fatigued, a man on a blindfolded horse enters the arena. He drives a lance into the bull’s back, causing the animal to bleed.
The blood loss is meant to frighten and weaken the bull as more men proceed to plunge banderillas into the bull’s upper back. The matador (which literally means “killer”) stabs him with a sword. If the bull doesn’t die straight away, a dagger or another weapon is used to sever his spinal cord and finally kill him. In response to the crowd, the matador might cut off the dying bull’s ears and/or tail as a trophy – sometimes while the bull is still conscious.
Bulls Deserve Better
Bulls are not here to be chased and killed for our entertainment. They are sensitive and clever individuals who suffer immensely when stalked by armed humans in front of jeering crowds. Bulls are social and make friends, even pairing up with others they consider their best friends.
Momentum Builds Against Bullfighting
Young Spaniards are turning away from this violence. In Spain, over 125 towns have taken action against bullfighting, and over 80 per cent of Spanish people oppose the cruel event. Colombia has banned bullfighting, and Mexico City this year moved to make bullfights as we know them impossible.

Bulls need you. Please take a moment to speak out against these cruel spectacles.
