Orca Defenders Hold Banner Outside TUI HQ, Blasting Company’s Marine Park Ticket Sales
Luton – Today, TUI’s senior leadership and staff arriving for “Embrace AI Day” at the travel company’s headquarters in Luton were met with an unexpected sight, as a group of PETA supporters greeted attendees with a giant banner declaring, “TUI: Orcas Don’t Belong In Tanks. Drop Marine Parks.” The action is the latest in PETA’s campaign to compel TUI to sever its ties with marine parks that hold orcas and other dolphins captive in the name of entertainment.
Footage and more images are available here and here.
“At SeaWorld and other marine abusement parks, highly intelligent orcas are denied any opportunity to dive deep, swim fast, or have any semblance of a natural life,” says PETA Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner. “PETA is calling on TUI to join the rest of the travel industry and stop propping up wretched marine mammal prisons.”
Last month, PETA supporters confronted TUI executives during the TTG Travel Industry Awards ceremony and at Travel Weekly’s Future of Travel Conference to urge TUI to join every other major travel provider in the UK by ending ticket sales to miserable marine parks.
In nature, orcas live in complex matrilineal societies, work cooperatively to find food, and can travel up to 150 miles in a single day. But in marine parks, including SeaWorld, orcas and other dolphins and whales are confined for their entire lives to tiny concrete tanks where they can do nothing but swim in circles and fend off attacks from their stressed tank mates.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to use for entertainment” – points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow PETA on X, Facebook, or Instagram.
