Giant Jesus Statue Proposed for the Cliffs of Moher Prompts PETA Add-On: Honour Christ’s Vegan Teachings!
County Clare, Ireland – Following the news that UFC fighter Conor McGregor wants to construct the world’s largest statue of Jesus Christ on the Cliffs of Moher, PETA sent a letter to the Director of the Cliffs of Moher Experience, requesting a simple addition should the project move forward: a plaque reading “Jesus Preached Compassion. Honour Him. Be Vegan.” As PETA notes in its letter, the plaque would encourage viewers to leave animals in peace and to practice the Golden Rule at the heart of Christ’s teachings: “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you.”

“The cruelties inherent in today’s factory farming systems starkly contradict the values of kindness and decency,” says PETA Founder Ingrid Newkirk. “One can only ask, ‘What would Jesus do?’ and today, his answer would have to be ‘Reject animal agriculture!’”
Genesis 1:29 states that God provides “every seed-bearing plant” and “every tree whose fruit contains seed” as food for humans, yet billions of animals are killed for food every year. They endure routine mutilations, such as castration and tail-docking, without pain relief before they experience a violent death in the slaughterhouse. Fish are impaled, crushed, suffocated, or cut open and gutted, often while they’re fully conscious. Each person who goes vegan saves nearly 200 animals every year from daily suffering and a terrifying death.
PETA’s letter concludes with an offer to send copies of its free vegan starter kit to the Cliffs of Moher Experience for visitors, regardless of whether the plans for the statue materialise.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – points out that Every Animal Is Someone and offers free Empathy Kits. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow PETA on Facebook, X, TikTok, or Instagram.
