María Pérez Sánchez-Laulh Subsecretario de Educación, Cultura y Deporte Dear Minister, I was horrified to learn that children as young as 14 are being taught to torture and kill bulls at bullfighting academies in Spain. The United Nations’ Committee on the Rights of the Child has ruled that it is harmful simply to expose children to the extreme violence of bullfighting – let alone encourage them to participate in it. Bullfighting schools are also immensely cruel to animals. The young bulls used in training exercises often face an even slower and more agonising death than those killed in conventional bullfights, as unpractised students need several attempts to deliver the “killer blow”. Please, will you act to protect the rights of young people and animals by closing down Spain’s bullfighting schools?
