THE QUEEN’S BIRTHDAY GIFT FROM PETA IS … A VEGAN STEAK AND KIDNEY BEAN PIE IN A TIN!

Fray Bentos Meat-Free Delight Is En Route to Her Majesty

London – In honour of the Queen’s 94th birthday on 21 April – and because she has reportedly been known to indulge in Fray Bentos pies during flights – PETA is sending Her Majesty one of the company’s new vegan steak and kidney bean pies. The pie, which was developed with input from the group and won a PETA Vegan Food Award, features pieces of meat-free steak and kidney beans covered in a savoury gravy inside the brand’s signature flaky crust.

“There’s no question that Fray Bentos’ vegan steak and kidney bean pie is fit for a queen,” says PETA Director of Vegan Corporate Projects Dawn Carr. “This is perfect lockdown food: it’s kind to the planet, there are no chopped-up animal parts, and it keeps for bloomin’ ages. Happy birthday, Your Majesty.”

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that eating vegan could help the Queen continue to enjoy robust health, as vegans are less prone to suffering from heart disease, obesity, cancer, diabetes, and numerous other health concerns than meat-eaters are. They also have smaller carbon footprints, as animal agriculture is a major producer of the greenhouse gases that contribute to climate change.

The group also notes that deadly outbreaks of swine flu, avian flu, SARS, HIV, foot-and-mouth disease, mad cow disease, and other zoonotic diseases have stemmed from capturing wild animals or farming animals for food.

PETA opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk.
