ZACK SABRE JR GIVES MEAT INDUSTRY A

Wrestling Champion Credits Vegan Fuel With Giving Him His Powerful Physique

London – Wearing his vegan leather jacket while taking a big bite out of a crisp carrot, British heavyweight wrestling champion Zack Sabre Jr appears in a new PETA ad that proclaims, “Vegan Strong – Powered by Plants”.

In an accompanying video spot, Sabre describes how “everything changed instantly” when he went vegan in 2015 after watching the documentary Forks Over Knives: “I just felt so much more energised,” he says. “Just eating plants … whole foods, you know, full of water, minerals, vitamins … you just feel good.” He also notes that “there’s no reason to be wearing clothes that have come at the expense of tortured animals”, mentioning that his jacket, shin guards, and shoes are all leather-free and vegan.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or wear” – opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview. Compared to meat-eaters, vegans are less prone to suffering from heart disease, strokes, diabetes, cancer, obesity, and numerous other health problems. Each person who goes vegan spares the lives of nearly 200 animals every year. PETA’s free vegan starter kit is available here.

Notably, many of Sabre’s wrestling contemporaries are also vegan, including Tyler Bate, Markus Burke, and Pete Dunne. He joins a growing group of vegan athletes – as recently promoted in Netflix’s new documentary The Game Changers – including Lewis Hamilton, Patrik Baboumian, and James Wilks. Additionally, footballer Chris Smalling, boxer David Haye, and cricketer Jason Gillespie have all teamed up with PETA to promote healthy and humane meat-free meals.
