PETA Urges Met Police to Install Safeguards Against Hot Dog Deaths

Following the recent tragic deaths of Chay and Milly, the police dogs who died after being left in a hot vehicle on 26 June, we sent an urgent letter to Sir Paul Stephenson, Commissioner at New Scotland Yard, requesting that an independently powered temperature-monitoring and heat-alert system be installed in all dog-carrying police vehicles.

In our letter, we pointed out that by installing the device – which, depending on the model, can sound an alarm, page the officer, attempt to start the engine, roll down a window or pop open the door if the temperature begins to reach a dangerous level – in police cars and vans, the Met can ensure that Chay and Milly are the last police dogs to die in hot cars.
