London –This year, PETA has re-imagined ‘ugly’ Christmas knitwear, launching its first-ever line of = holiday jumpers – the “Christmassacre” collection. What seem like ordinary festive pullovers at first glance instead feature stark, haunting images of animals killed for traditional meaty holiday dinners.

Celebrities including David Walliams, Sadie Frost, and Lou Sanders are showing support for the campaign – wearing the jumpers to encourage people to consider that while Christmas is meant to be a season of peace and goodwill, for millions of animals, it’s anything but.

The celebrities shared the campaign on their social media platforms for Christmas Jumper Day

“This Christmas, over 180 million animals will be slaughtered in the UK,” Walliams says. “Please take a pause to think about your choices. Thank you.”

Frost adds: “This is no laughing matter! And this is the only Christmas jumper I will be wearing while I eat my nut roast!”

“There’s no comfort or joy for the millions of cows, pigs, turkeys, and other animals who are raised on filthy factory farms and violently killed for Christmas dinners,” says PETA Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen. “Wearing one of the ‘Christmassacre’ jumpers is an act of activism – a call to choose compassion over carnage this holiday season.”

The limited-edition jumpers – which are available to buy now on PETA’s website for £75 apiece, including postage are made of vegan wool to spare sheep from being shorn bloody. The knitwear is part of PETA’s ‘Christmassacre’ campaign which includes a chilling new Christmas advert,  screening in cinemas nationwide until 24 Dec.
