London – Today, attendees of Burberry’s Annual General Meeting witnessed a shocking scene outside London’s Horseferry House, as a PETA supporter dressed as a bloodied goat had the hair aggressively ‘torn from their body’ by a “farmer”. At the same time, the actual screams of terrified goats were played, whose suffering was recorded during PETA Asia’s undercover investigation on cashmere farms in Mongolia – one of the world’s top cashmere exporters.

Photos and video footage are available here and here.
PETA Asia’s investigation revealed that workers pin frightened goats to the ground and quickly and carelessly shear them or tear out their hair with sharp, rake-like metal combs, leaving the animals with bloody, gaping wounds. Bodies of dead goats were scattered on site, including kid goats who likely died from extreme cold and hunger. Investigators also witnessed a herder using an unsterilised knife to cut open kid goats’ scrotums and pull out their testicles with his bare hands – all without pain relief.
“On cashmere farms, investigators witnessed goats being cut to shreds so their hair can be turned into a scarf or jumper,” says PETA Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner. “No item of clothing is worth this cruelty. PETA is calling on Burberry CEO Joshua Schulman to stop turning a blind eye to goats’ suffering and ditch cashmere immediately.”
Meanwhile, inside the boardroom, a PETA US representative asked a question on behalf of wildlife campaigner Chris Packham, challenging the fashion giant to “move forwards” by dropping cashmere from its collections.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear” points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a bull is a dog is a boy. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow PETA on Facebook, Twitter, TikTok, or Instagram.
