Photos: ‘Horses’ and ‘Camels’ Covered in ‘Blood’ at Egyptian Embassy in Protest of Cruel Animal Rides

London – Today, a herd of PETA “horses” and “camels” bearing signs that read, “Egypt: Dump Bloody Cruel Animal Rides!” covered themselves in “blood” outside the Egyptian Embassy as part of a campaign urging the country’s government to end the use of animals as taxis for tourists at the great Egyptian pyramids.

Multiple investigations by PETA entities reveal that horses and camels are forced to haul tourists in the blistering sun with insufficient access to food, rest, shade, or proper veterinary care. Exhausted animals are viciously whipped in an effort to get them to stand up or keep moving. Injured and malnourished horses were seen eating from rubbish dumps, and the bodies of dead horses were found discarded at rubbish sites outside the pyramids.

“Horses and camels are starved, beaten bloody, and worked until they drop at the pyramids of Giza,” says PETA Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner. “PETA is calling on the Egyptian government to fulfil its promise to end this cruelty and urges travellers never to ride animals.”
