Hampshire – Peppa Pig World visitors got a dose of reality when PETA’s “Hell on Wheels” truck rolled in as the conclusion of its tour of the UK and Ireland, giving families an up-close look at the suffering behind every sausage roll and ham-topped pizza served at the theme park. The hyper-realistic pig transport truck, covered with images of real pigs on their way to slaughter, also blasted actual recorded sounds of the animals’ panicked screams.
The action followed a letter (available here) urging the park to remove pork products from park menus – pointing out that it’s “disturbing” to celebrate Peppa and her family one moment and then eat the flesh of real pigs in ‘Daddy Pig’s Café’ the next.

“Pigs are every bit as curious and full of personality as the characters children adore, yet millions are still carved up for ham or sausages,” says PETA Vice President of Programmes Elisa Allen. “There’s something deeply weird about teaching children to love Peppa Pig and then serving up real pigs as food. PETA’s ‘Hell on Wheels’ truck is urging families to leave pigs and other animals in peace and choose vegan.”
PETA notes that pigs are soothed by music, love playing ball, sleep in “pig piles,” and female pigs are naturally doting mothers. In the meat industry, mother pigs are confined to farrowing crates so small that they can’t even turn around, let alone fulfil their strong urge to build a nest as they would naturally do. They’re forcibly impregnated over and over again, and each litter of piglets is taken away from them after only a few weeks. Workers chop off piglets’ tails and clip their teeth with pliers – and the animals endure intense confinement before their throats are slashed in abattoirs.
PETA’s “Hell on Wheels” truck has been touring the UK and Ireland throughout October and November.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a pig is a dog is a boy. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow PETA on Facebook, X, TikTok, or Instagram.
