Leeds – Today, a PETA “chef” roasted lifelike human “babies” on a spit outside Leeds’s newly opened Rotisserie Club in a provocative protest reminding passersby that chickens raised for meat are slaughtered when they’re just babies – typically at around six weeks old. A sign reading, “Eating a Chicken? You’re Eating a Baby. Go Vegan!” challenged diners to extend their compassion to these sensitive, intelligent birds and leave them off their plates.

Images are available here, and video footage can be found here.
“Whether they have feathers or fingers, babies don’t belong on a rotisserie – or on our plates.” says PETA Vice President Elisa Allen. “PETA urges anyone horrified by the thought of roasting a child will extend that same compassion to other animals too and choose a delicious vegan meal instead.”
All animals are someone’s baby, regardless of species. And chickens are social learners who watch and emulate one another. They form strong bonds, dream when they sleep, and worry about the future, just as humans do. Yet those raised and killed for their flesh are crammed by the tens of thousands into filthy, windowless sheds. At the abattoir, they’re shackled upside down, their throats are slit, and they’re scalded in defeathering tanks – sometimes while still conscious. PETA’s free vegan starter kit can help anyone looking to make the switch.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – opposes speciesism, a human-supremacist worldview. For more information, please visit PETA’s website or follow the group on Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), TikTok, or Instagram.
