Sprinting Santas Warn Margate Beachgoers: Meat Brings the Heat!
Margate, Kent – Today (9 July), as the summer heatwave draws crowds to Margate beach, PETA supporters dressed as Santas raced across the sand holding signs that read, “Go Vegan or the North Pole Melts!” and “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Climate Change. Go Vegan!” as a reminder that animal agriculture is a significant contributor to the climate catastrophe, including the current worldwide scorching temperatures.

“Polar ice shelves are disappearing, and England has just experienced its hottest June on record because[RS1] humans’ meaty eating habits cause massive amounts of greenhouse gas emissions,” says PETA Senior Campaigns Manager Kate Werner. “PETA encourages everyone to earn a spot on the ‘nice list’ by eating vegan foods that protect the planet, including Santa’s home.”
According to the United Nations, about a third of all human-caused greenhouse gas emissions are linked to food production, and the largest percentage of these emissions come from the meat and dairy industries. The most comprehensive analysis to date concluded that eating vegan produces 75% less climate-heating emissions and water pollution, and requires 75% less land than meat-rich diets. Every person who goes vegan spares nearly 200 animals each year a life of suffering and a terrifying death, and reduces their own risk of developing heart disease and cancer.
PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat or abuse in any way” – points out that when it comes to the ability to feel pain, hunger, and thirst, a bull is a dog is a boy. For more information, please visit PETA.org.uk or follow PETA on Facebook, X, TikTok, or Instagram.
