Ham Face – The Creepy Killer Hiding In Your Fridge, Rotting In Your Colon

Pink sludge. Blood in the toilet. A killer hitching a ride to school with your kids.

Ham Face, the fearsome figure in your fridge, is exposed in PETA’s new video.

In the chilling horror short created by London creative agency Pablo, Ham Face, a lumbering villain with a gruesome grin and a disturbingly fleshy body, is brought to life, terrorising a family to remind viewers that ham, bacon, sausages, and other meats are both the product and the cause of death. As the video says, “meat’s pretty scary when you know what’s in it”.

Classified as carcinogenic, processed meats are seriously scary. Read on to see what the science says, learn the horror of ham, and see what you can eat to escape the clutches of murderous meat.

Is Ham Really That Bad For You?

In a word, yes.

It’s been more than a decade since the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) classified processed meat, like ham, bacon, salami and sausages, as Group 1 carcinogens, putting it in the same category as asbestos and tobacco smoke.

The IARC estimates that consuming 50 grams of processed meat per day – about two rashers of bacon – increases the risk of colorectal cancer by approximately 18%. Bowel cancer is the nation’s second biggest killer after lung cancer, but Cancer Research UK noted that 54% of cases are preventable with lifestyle adjustments, like diet.

Recently, Professor Chris Elliott, a former government food safety adviser, said that thousands of human lives could be saved by banning cancer-causing chemicals used in processed meats to prevent spoilage and make them appear pink.

It’s not only processed meats that are bad for you. The IARC also classifies other mammalian flesh, like lamb and beef, as “probably carcinogenic to humans”. Conversely, research shows that animal-free diets are linked to lower risks of pancreatic, breast, and kidney cancer and multiple myeloma compared with meat eaters. Vegan men were also found to have a 35% reduced risk of prostate cancer.

With cancer rates rising and treatment waiting times worse than ever, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. And not even a gram of ham is worth a pig’s life.

Pork: A Real-Life Horror Movie For Pigs

Imagine how outraged you’d be if puppies were hoisted by their hind legs and had their throats slashed open before being dismembered and eaten. That’s what happens to 10 million gentle, clever pigs every single year in the UK alone, even though they, like dogs, feel pain and fear and value their lives and families.

Curious and highly intelligent, pigs possess complex problem-solving skills and impressive memories. They’ve even been taught to play video games and can tell artworks they’ve created from those of their friends. Pigs are playful, wagging their tails when they’re happy, and loving, singing to nursing piglets. They also show empathy for others, comforting their fellow pigs when they’re scared.

Pigs’ bodies and lives are their own, but for us to eat their flesh, they’re confined in filthy farms where they’re denied the chance to forage, socialise, and play. Mother pigs are continuously exploited. Where they’d naturally take pride in building a soft nest for their beloved babies, they’re instead artificially inseminated and crammed into cages barely bigger than their bodies, and, forced to pump out babies for slaughter until their own violent deaths.

It’s Easy to Leave Pork Off Your Fork

Love a bacon sarnie? Good news, you can have it without the pig.

Supermarkets are stocked with delicious animal-free bacon, hams, sausages, salamis and even ‘ribs’, and restaurants are dishing up vegan sausages, pork roasts, ham toasties and pepperoni pizzas all over Britain. And since all meat is cruel and unhealthy, you’ll want to stock up on vegan chicken, fish and beef while you’re at it.
