Chickens Don’t Want to Die
Chickens feel joy, friendship, and love. They are very inquisitive and social and like to spend their days together, scratching for food, taking dust baths, roosting in trees, and lying in the sun. Chickens are excellent mothers and a mother hen begins to teach calls to her chicks before they even hatch. They , just like we do. Every single one is an individual who has a zest for life and will fight to keep theirs, just like you would.even dream, just like we do.
But chickens raised for their flesh never have the chance to do anything that’s natural or important to them. A baby chick on a factory farm will never be allowed contact with his or her parents, let alone be raised by them. These chickens are deprived of the chance to take dust baths, feel the warmth of the sun on their backs, breathe fresh air, roost in trees, and build nests.
Chickens are the most abused land animal on the planet. Over 69 billion of them are killed for their flesh every year. That’s 10 times more killing than of all the cows, pigs, turkeys, ducks, and sheep in the world combined. None go to their death willingly.
Where Your Chicken Dinner Comes From
Most chickens raised for their flesh are crammed into sheds with up to 50,000 other birds, confined amid their own waste and often among dead and dying flockmates.
The birds have been selectively bred by humans to grow unnaturally large in a short time. Their legs can’t support their own body weight, often leading to crippling leg deformities, broken bones, heart attacks, and breathing problems.
Then they’re killed when they’re just 6 weeks old.
Farming Chickens Is Bad for Humans, Too
Chicken farms are driving deforestation, habitat loss, species extinction, pollution, and the climate catastrophe. The UK’s enormous chicken population consumes vast resources, and the megafarms that house them generate copious quantities of run-off, such as manure, ammonia, chemicals, and other muck, which pollutes the environment and poisons local wildlife.
Crowding so many sick and stressed birds in filthy conditions also creates a perfect breeding ground for deadly viruses, such as the highly pathogenic avian flu currently threatening to become the next global pandemic. Add to that the high fat and cholesterol content of chicken flesh, and it’s clear to see how a switch to eating plant-based pulses will keep your heart beating for longer.
Don’t Eat Chickens
No one needs to eat chickens. Vegan foods, from plant-based chicken to chickpeas, are hearty and delicious – and no one died for it. Keep animals, the planet, and your heartbeat healthy by going vegan.
