Vegans Take the Win in ‘The Game Changers’

What do gorillas, elephants, and the world’s best athletes have in common? They’re all plant-powered.

Today, the great meat deception is being exposed. Academy Award winners James Cameron and Louie Psihoyos are taking their documentary film The Game Changers to 1,000 cinemas around the world. The film explores why so many of the world’s top athletes, from champion tennis player Novak Djokovic to Formula 1 icon Lewis Hamilton, are now vegan.

To start, The Game Changers follows military combat instructor and former Ultimate Fighting Championship martial artist James Wilks.

After being badly injured, he began researching what he could do to help his body recover. His search became a five-year quest that led him to four continents and dozens of the world’s top athletes and nutrition experts.

Among the experts Wilks meets are Arnold Schwarzenegger, two-time World Surfing Champion Tia Blanco, world record–holding strength athlete Patrik Baboumian, former president of the American College of Cardiology Dr Kim Williams, founder of the Preventive Medicine Research Institute Dr Dean Ornish, and several members of the Miami Dolphins NFL team.

They all agree that meat, egg, and dairy consumption is a barrier to optimal health.

Schwarzenegger notes,

“If they tell you to eat more meat to be strong – don’t buy it.”

Why Are Athletes Going Vegan?

  • Vegan eating provides athletes with all the protein, complex carbohydrates, and other nutrients they need to get stronger and faster.
  • A recent review has shown that vegan eating improves cardiovascular health as well as recovery time in endurance athletes.
  • Meat, eggs, and dairy are high in cholesterol and saturated fat, which build up in the body, clog arteries, and prevent the heart from working properly. Cholesterol is found only in animal-derived foods – so a plant-based diet is 100% cholesterol-free.
  • Scientists have also found that people who don’t eat meat tend to have stronger immune systems, making them less susceptible to flu and other illnesses.
  • Many athletes, including PETA’s 2018 Person of the Year Lewis Hamilton and professional footballer Chris Smalling, went vegan for ethical reasons. The meat, fishing, egg, and dairy industries are a nightmare for animals, who are treated like a collection of body parts rather than the sentient individuals they are, with the ability to feel pain, fear, and joy, just as humans do.

If Professional Athletes Can Go Vegan, So Can You
