PETA Calls For Tribute to Pigs Who Died in Barcelona Lorry Crash
An accident on the AP-7 north of Barcelona earlier this week killed several pigs and injured others after a lorry carrying the animals – who were likely destined for slaughter – collided with a car.
PETA sent a letter to the deputy mayor of Barcelona asking for planning approval to erect a tombstone memorial at the scene.
In addition to paying tribute to the pigs, PETA is hoping to convey that everyone can help prevent abattoir-bound lorries from travelling on the motorway by choosing vegan meals.
Pigs Destined for Abattoirs
In the meat industry, many piglets’ teeth are ground down and their tails are cut off without any painkillers – a horrific “solution” to tail biting.
Female pigs are forcibly, repeatedly impregnated. Each litter of piglets is torn away from them after only a few weeks and transported to fattening pens before eventually being sent to slaughter.
Before they give birth, mothers are confined to farrowing crates so small that they can’t even turn around.
Try Vegan
We can prevent pigs’ deaths – both on the roads and in abattoirs – by choosing not to eat them. Try vegan for 30 days now:
