Give Meat the Boot in Doctor Who’s Reboot! BBC Urged to Make the Time Lord Vegan

London – Following Doctor Who’s surprise regeneration at the end of series 15, and rumours of a series reboot, PETA has sent the BBC a timely letter urging them to make the next incarnation of the iconic character vegan. As PETA points out in its letter, for a character who has always championed kindness over cruelty, choosing compassion for animals – who feel pain, fear, joy, and love, just as humans and Time Lords do – going vegan would be the natural next step in the Doctor’s evolution.

“For decades, the Doctor has travelled the universe defending the vulnerable, standing up to bullies, and challenging injustice wherever it appears,” writes PETA Vice President Elisa Allen. “Going vegan is a natural extension of the compassion, curiosity, and moral courage that have always defined the character.”

Cows develop friendships over time, chickens enjoy taking dust baths and roosting in trees, and pigs show empathy for other pigs who are happy or distressed – but in today’s meat, egg, and dairy industries, the animals are raised in filthy, crowded conditions, trucked to abattoirs through all weather extremes, and violently killed.

PETA notes that vegan foods have a smaller carbon footprint, while the meat and dairy industries are top producers of greenhouse gases that contribute to the climate catastrophe. Every person who goes vegan saves the lives of approximately 200 animals per year and reduces their own risk of heart disease, diabetes, certain cancers, obesity, and other illnesses.
