These things just happen: maybe Christmas party got a bit too exciting, or perhaps you had your fifth virtual pub quiz of the month and enjoyed one too many margaritas. No matter how you got here, the hangover is real, and so are these vegan comfort cures:

Vegan Food Delivered to Your Door

There’s little as wonderful as not having to lift a finger when you have a hangover. And luckily, there’s so much satisfying vegan food available for delivery. Whether you want a tasty pizza or a bowl of curry, our list of vegan deliveries is bound to sort you right out:

Coffee and an Anti-Inflammatory

It’s the classic cure for hangovers with a no-animals-harmed twist! Get this: while you’re drinking at your local pub – or at home – a devilish chemical called acetate is being released into your body, which is what gives you that hangover headache.

Tackle it head-on by getting caffeine into your system along with an anti-inflammatory – like a teaspoonful of turmeric stirred into warm coconut milk, extra virgin olive oil, blueberries, or ginger. Be sure to stick to dairy-free milk in your coffee, though, since dairy can cause inflammation … as well the deaths of countless cows.

Miso Soup

If your stomach is the true victim here, try miso soup. Miso is fermented, so it contains good bacteria that’ll help regulate your tummy, and as an added bonus, the soup will rehydrate you at the same time.

Note: Make sure it’s vegan. Many miso soups contain fish sauce or chicken stock, which isn’t going to do anyone any good, especially not the animals put through hell for their flesh.

Ginger

If you’re too nauseated to read any further, you need some ginger in your life, stat. Try ginger tea, candied ginger, or even pickled ginger (the kind that comes with sushi) for some relief. Or just mix 1/4 teaspoonful of powdered ginger into a glass of water and – down the hatch! – you’ll feel better in no time.

Fruit Smoothie

Bananas are a solid source of potassium and magnesium, which will help regulate your body’s water levels and put that headache to bed. Add coconut water for extra potassium and blueberries for some anti-inflammatory punch.

Kombucha

Maybe the secret behind the kombucha trend is that everyone needs a boost after a pub crawl. The good bacteria in this healthy drink can help reverse the effects of last night’s not-so-healthy drinks, so bottoms up.

Tofu Scramble

Comfort food can be the cure: just scramble some tofu with broccoli, red pepper, and onion. These veggies contain cysteine, an amino acid that helps break down alcohol. Feeling fancy? Stuff your scramble into roasted red pepper halves for the absolute best presentation on the worst of days.
